Kolkata: Speeding car kills 3 near Police Training School

Kolkata, Dec 5 (IBNS): At least three persons were killed and 18 others were seriously injured when an over-speeding car smashed into several motorcycles and mowed down pedestrians on a pavement at Race Course Crossing under Hastings Police Station limits in Kolkata on Monday afternoon, reports said.

According to reports, the AJC Bose Road to Hastings bound Volkswagen sedan (WB 06A 9395) violated a traffic signal at around 1:45 pm. and hit at least three motorcycles at a speed of 80-90 kmph.

Thereafter the speeding vehicle crashed into a pavement-intersection, hurting several pedestrians, waiting there to cross the road.

All injured persons, including the killer car's driver, were rushed to SSKM hospital nearby, where three of them, including one bike rider and two pedestrians, were declared dead.

"Three killed have been identified as Rajib Roy, Fatema Mondal and Susanta Mondal," an official of Kolkata Police told IBNS.

Following the accident, cabinet ministers Firhad Hakim and Arup Biswas, state Fire Minister and Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee and senior officials of Kolkata Police visited the scene and met the injured at SSKM hospital.

After seizing the killer car, police have started investigation into the matter.
