Kolkata, Oct 16 (IBNS): A major fire broke out in a Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC) sub-station at Dumdum Central Jail More area in Kolkata on Friday, officials said.
According to reports, the fire was first detected in the sub-station of electric supply office at around 11:30 am.

Three transformers exploded and the fire spread to a multi-storey residential building nearby. One gas cylinder in a flat also exploded.

However, police, disaster management group (DMG) and fire tenders have rushed to the spot and fire fighters are trying to bring the blaze under control.

As many as 15 fire fighter engines along with a special foam-containing engine have reached the spot and police evacuated the residential buildings nearby.

The director general of Fire, Gour Ghosh told IBNS, "We have sent 17 fire fighter engines to the spot. But most of those have been stuck in traffic jam. I'm also going there, but getting late for a huge traffic. The fire has broken out at a congested area. Two residential apartments, one school and one petrol pump are located nearby. Fire fighters are trying to control the fire before it spreads to other buildings."
