Kerala: BJP sacks leader over bribery allegations
The sacked leader has been identified as RS Vinod, who allegedly took Rs. five crores from a healthcare facility, promising them a Medical Council of India (MCI) accreditation.
Following the incident, V Muralidharan, the national executive Council member of BJP, was quoted in the media as saying: "I don't believe that the central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi can be influenced by any type of corruption or bribery. Last 3 years, our govt has not succumbed to any of this. I am sure our stand will not change if anyone is found guilty."
The leader was removed after an internal report found him guilty of having links with hawala dealers.
The report also stated that he had indeed taken the bribe and the money was transferred from Kochi to Delhi through the hawala dealers.
Crying foul, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president MM Hasaan urged the state government to launch a probe into BJP, accusing them of money laundering.
Hasaan stated: "The state government should order a vigilance probe. BJP is involved in corruption of over 400 crore rupees in 70 medical colleges across India."
Echoing his sentiments, CPI (M) lawmaker MB Rajesh has asked the PM to 'walk the talk' and has sought an explanation from the central government.
"This is only the tip of the entire scam. We want the PM to walk the talk on the issue of political corruption which he raised in all party meeting. This is not just about the bribery in Kerala but over 26 colleges have got recognition from MCI through various channels," he said.
