Kashmir violence: Death toll touches 41, cable TV restored, newspapers gagged
Srinagar, July 17 (IBNS): With one more killing in firing by security personnel, the death toll in the conflict-hit Kashmir Valley has touched 41, reports said on Sunday.
Kashmir is witnessing clashes following the encounter death of Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani last Friday.
According to last received reports, one person was killed and two others injured after security forces opened fire on a crowd when they attacked a police post in Kupwara district of north Kashmir.
Meanwhile, cable TV service has been restored in the Valley after being suspended for more than than 12 hours. But the service providers said they were not allowed to broadcast any Pakistani channels.
Even as cable TV was restored, newspapers gag continued.
This comes after police on Saturday seized copies of Kashmir's largest circulated newspaper, 'Greater Kashmir' following midnight raids.
Journalists and editors protested in Srinagar after being told not to publish newspapers by authorities.
According to reports, from Monday, newspapers will not be sold on newsstands but online editions will continue.
Cellphone and internet services are still suspended in large parts of the Kashmir.
Amarnath Yatra, suspended amid the violence, has resumed from Jammu under tight security.
More than 2,000 have been injured in violent protests that broke out after the killing of Burhan Wani.
