John Kerry meets Jaitley, to call on Swaraj

New Delhi, July 31 (IBNS): US Secretary of State John Kerry, who arrived in India on Wednesday for the 5th Indo-US Strategic Dialogue, met Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday.

Kerry had a meeting with India's National Security Advisor in the morning followed by the meeting with Jaitley, who is also the Defence Minister.

Kerry will meet External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj around 3 pm at the  Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan where there will be a delegation level talks too.

A joint press interaction will follow.

Kerry will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday morning at the 7 Race Course Road residence of the PM before leaving for USA.

The Strategic Dialogue is scheduled on Thursday which Kerry will co-chair with Indian Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj.

Union Minister of State for Commerce (Independent charge) Nirmala Sitharaman will also participate in the Dialogue.

"Secretary Kerry will be accompanied by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker, who will lead discussions to strengthen economic ties between the U.S. and India. Other members of the interagency, including Deputy Secretary of Energy Daniel Poneman, Department of Homeland Security Under Secretary Francis Taylor, and NASA Associate Administrator Michael O'Brien, are also scheduled to join the trip," the US Department of State earlier said in a statement.

This is Kerry's first visit to India since the formation of the new government in the country.
