Jammu/UNI: At least two shanties were gutted in fire and as many saved when a mysterious fire broke out in slum area at Roopnagar here in the city outskirts.

Police on Monday said a fire broke in the slum area in an abandoned plot in Roop Nagar area here.

“Although there was no loss of life in the accident, but many household items inside the shanties got burnt,” police said , adding that locals informed them after which two fire brigade vehicles along with firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the flames.

“Had the timely action was not taken by pressing the fire fighters into service, the inferno could have done excessive damage,” police added and said that one ‘jhuggi’ was completely gutted while two others have suffered damages and two were saved.

“Initially, short circuit seems to be the cause of fire but the matter is being investigated,” said police.
