Jammu and Kashmir: Encounter underway between security forces, terrorists in Pulwama

Srinagar/UNI: An encounter broke out between militants and security forces on Saturday in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.

A police spokesman said that on a tip-off about the presence of militants in the forest at Nagberan-Tarsar Tral in Pulwama in the wee hours today, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation.

When the security forces were moving forward in the woods, militants hiding there opened indiscriminate fire with automatic weapons. Security forces also retaliated that ensued an encounter, he said.

Additional troops have been rushed and entire forest area has been cordoned off, the spokesperson said adding further details are awaited.

Update: Two terrorists have been killed.

Kashmir Police tweeted to confirm that two terrorists were killed in the incident.
