Srinagar/UNI: Two unidentified militants were killed by security forces in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Anantnag on Wednesday, a police spokesman said this afternoon.

Meanwhile, mobile internet service has been suspended as a precautionary measure to prevent rumours.

He said troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir launched a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the woods of Shalgul Serigufwara in Anantnag following a tip off about the presence of militants.

After sealing all exit points, when security forces were moving towards a particular area in the cordoned off area, the militants hiding there opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons.

He said security forces also retaliated ensuing in an encounter.

Two unidentified militants were killed in the operation so far, he said, adding the CASO was going on when the reports last came in.

Security forces used drones and helicopters to local the militants in the forest.

The operation was going on when the reports last came in, he said.

Meanwhile, additional security forces have been deployed in the adjoining area to prevent any law and order problem.
