Israel's Minister of Science, Technology and Space to visit New Delhi and Bengaluru

New Delhi, Dec 5 (IBNS): Israel’s Minister of Science, Technology and Space, Ofir Akunis arrived in New Delhi, on Monday, at the invitation of Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister at Ministry of Science and Technology (India) and Ministry of Earth Sciences.

The Israeli minister will be visiting New Delhi and Bengaluru from Dec 5-8 Dec, 2016.


Minister Akunis will meet Dr Harsh Vardhan on Tuesday.

He will be accompanied by Member of Knesset (Israeli Parliament)  Yaakov Perry (former Minister of Science, Technology and Space), Member of Knesset Michal Rozin, Member of Knesset Yitzhak Vaknin, Director General of the Ministry Science, Technology and Space, Peretz Vazan and Avi Blasberger, Head of the Israel Space Agency.

Leading up to his visit, Minister Akunis said, “Deepening the relations between India and Israel are a critical strategic goal for both countries. I am visiting India, a true friend of Israel, to broaden the scientific and technological cooperation between our countries. India and Israel are at the forefront of technology worldwide and we will continue to ensure they remain so.”

In New Delhi, the Israeli minister will inaugurate an exhibition titled “Israeli Discoveries and Developments that influenced the World” organized by the Israeli Ministry of Science, Technology and Space, and visit the India International Science Festival at NPL.

The cross-party Israeli delegation is expected to meet Indian parliamentarians from both coalition and opposition, as well as visit the Gandhi Memorial in Rajghat. 

In Bengaluru, the Minister will deliver a special address at The Global Technology Summit, meet with Karnataka's Minister of ITDT and visit the India Institute of Science.

Speaking on the upcoming visit of Minister Akunis, Israel’s Ambassador to India, Daniel Carmon said, “Israel has proven time and again that it is India’s Technological Partner. Our ecosystems of innovation and technology do not compete but rather complete each other. Solutions created in the Development Laboratory that is Israel, are adapted to answer the shared challenges India and Israel face together.”

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin was on six-day visit to India in Nov 2016.
