'India not a dalaal nation': Jaishankar at all-party meeting on concerns over Pakistan's mediator role in West Asia conflict

Responding to concerns raised at an all-party meeting in the national capital, Jaishankar said the United States using Pakistan is not new.

He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called for an end to the conflict during his conversation with US President Donald Trump.

The minister’s remarks came as the Opposition questioned India’s stance on the crisis triggered by the US-Israel attack on Iran, aimed at discouraging Tehran from developing nuclear capabilities.

Rejecting the Opposition’s charge that India has remained “silent” on the issue, Jaishankar said the government has been “commenting and responding” to the evolving situation.

However, Opposition leaders termed the response unsatisfactory and demanded a detailed discussion in Parliament.

Meanwhile, Iran’s ambassador to New Delhi, Mohammad Fathali, said India can play an effective role in easing tensions in West Asia.

Fathali highlighted India’s balanced foreign policy and strong ties with all parties involved in the US-Israel-Iran conflict, describing New Delhi as a credible mediator.

“India can certainly play an effective and positive role in reducing tensions. As a major actor in the Global South, India holds a special position to help de-escalate tensions and facilitate dialogue,” he said as quoted by NDTV.

He added that India’s historical and strategic relations enable it to act as a trusted player in reducing misunderstandings and strengthening diplomatic channels.
