India extends $200 million credit lines to Rwanda

Kigali, July 24 (IBNS): With Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting Rwanda, India has extended $200 million lines of credit to the African nation, officials said.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently visiting Rwanda.

He held talks with the country's President Paul Kagame.

Both the leaders discussed issues related to strengthening partnership in trade and investment, capacity building, development partnership and people to people ties.

MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted: "Getting down to business immediately upon arrival! PM @narendramodi & Rwandan President @PaulKagame follow a one-on-one meeting with delegation level talks to strengthen partnership in trade & investment, capacity building, development partnership & people to people ties."

Speaking during a joint press statement, Modi said: "India - Rwanda relations have stood the test of time."

Modi said India will soon open its mission in Rwanda.

"For years the Indian community in Rwanda wanted a High Commission. This long pending demand will be fulfilled and you will be connected even further with India," said Modi.

Modi reached Rwanda on July 23.

This is the first visit by an Indian PM to Rwanda.

He will also visit Uganda and South Africa.{image_6}

The visit to South Africa is in the context of BRICS Summit.
