Imphal: NH blocked as public demand release of alleged NSCN (IM) cadre

Imphal : At least 50 trucks loaded with goods headed to Imphal, the capital city of Manipur, are stranded before Mao Gate after a huge number of people blocked the National Highway, protesting and demanding release of an alleged cadre of NSCN (IM).

34th Assam Rifles arrested a cadre of the NSCN (IM) early Saturday morning  from Khrokho village situation between Mao Gate and Nagaland.

The arrested cadre was identified as Salew Hepuni (40).


  
Following the arrest, a large number of people from Mao, Maram stormed the gate of Assam Rifles and demanded the release of the man, terming him innocent.

They also blocked the National Highway.

The protesters held placards with slogans against Assam Rifles.
