Hathras SP says medical report doesn't confirm victim was raped

Hathras/IBNS: Aligarh Muslim University Medical College and Hospital's medical report of the Hathras Dalit woman, who succumbed to an assault by four upper-caste men, did not confirm rape, Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikrant Vir said on Thursday, reported media.

According to news agency ANI, the SP said the medical report mentioned injuries but didn't confirm forced sexual intercourse. However, forensic reports are still awaited, and a firm opinion can be given only after that.

Meanwhile, the family of the 19-year-old girl alleged 'threats and pressure' from Hathras District Magistrate (DM) Praveen Kumar Laxkar.

The video of the DM speaking to the family, captured on a mobile phone, has gone viral. He could be heard saying: "Do not finish your credibility. These media people... some left today and tomorrow more will leave. Only we will be here with you. Ok? It is up to you whether you want to change your statement or not. We can also change.

The 19-year-old Dalit rape victim died at Delhi's Safdurjung Hospital on Tuesday. She had suffered multiple multiple fractures, paralysis, and severe spinal injury in the sexual assault by four upper-caste men in Boolagarhi village of Hathras district in Uttar Pradesh on September 14.

Amid a massive outpour of anger over Uttar Pradesh Police's lackadaisical response and official inertia over the victim's family's pleas, her body was taken away forcibly by the cops.

Her family had begged to take her body to their home and do her last rites the next morning. Instead, they were hustled into an SUV right from the hospital and locked in their home in the village while the state police cremated their daughter at 2.30 am, in an act that is being widely viewed as a desperate attempt to cover up its string of lapses.
