Modi said he told the President that it is important to safeguard freedom of navigation.
"Reiterated the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation and ensuring that shipping lanes remain open and secure," he said.
He appreciated Iran’s continued support for the safety and security of Indian nationals in Iran.
The Prime Minister raised his concern over the shipping lanes since more than 20 Indian vessels reportedly remain stranded in the Persian Gulf region, with traffic through the Strait of Hormuz largely disrupted.
The Middle East is witnessing escalation in tension since February 28 when the US-Israel attacked Tehran.
