Four policemen killed in Kashmir IED blast

Srinagar, Jan 6 (IBNS) : At least four policemen were killed in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in North Kashmir's Sopore town of Baramullah district on Saturday,  police said.

According to reports, militants detonated the IED, killing the four cops on the spot and injuring two others

A police officer said the IED planted by suspected militants went off near the  Main Chowk area of Sopore.

The injured have been admitted to hospital.

The deceased policemen have been identified as  Irshad Ahmad (ASI) of Doda, Mohd Amin of Kupwara, Ghulam Rasool and Ghulam Nabi of Sopore.

Soon after the attack, the  army, paramilitary forces and SOG launched searches to nab the attackers.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti condemned the  incident and offered her condolences to the bereaved families.

“Pained to hear that four policeman have been killed in an IED explosion in Sopore. My deepest condolences to their families,” Chief Minister wrote on twitter .
