Four Pakistani terrorists, including a top LeT commander, killed in LoC landmine blast in J&K

Four Pakistani terrorists, including a senior Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander, were killed in a landmine blast while allegedly attempting to infiltrate India across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Monday, officials said.

The explosion occurred in the Satwal-Naki area of the Krishna Ghati sector when a group of suspected infiltrators from the Pakistan-administered side of the LoC attempted to cross into Indian territory.

The powerful blast, reportedly caused by an improvised explosive device (IED), triggered heightened security measures in the forward areas.

Four terrorists identified

The deceased have been identified as Muhammad Ishtiaq, Muhammad Faizan, Muhammad Waqas and Muhammad Asim.

They were reportedly residents of Mandla, Madarpur, Tehsil Hajira, in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Muhammad Faizan was identified by officials as a senior Lashkar-e-Taiba commander.

Officials said the exact circumstances surrounding the explosion are still being investigated.

Security alert along LoC

Following the incident, security forces sounded an alert across the sector and intensified surveillance along the LoC to assess the situation and prevent any potential infiltration attempts.

The Satwal-Naki area is considered a traditional infiltration route. Suspected terrorists have attempted to cross into Indian territory through this stretch on previous occasions.

Officials also recalled earlier incidents in the area in which six to seven members of Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT) were reportedly killed in a similar manner.

Two landmines found in Mendhar

In a separate incident on Monday, Army personnel detected two rusted landmines near the border fence in the Basoni area of Mendhar sector.

The explosive devices were discovered during track construction at around 8.25 am and 12.10 pm, respectively.

Army experts subsequently destroyed both mines in controlled explosions, officials said.

Rainfall can displace border mines

Landmines are deployed across several forward areas along the LoC as part of the anti-infiltration system.

However, heavy rainfall can dislodge the devices and wash them into areas where they may pose a danger to security personnel and civilians.

The discovery of the rusted mines and the deadly blast underscore the continuing security challenges in the sensitive border region.
