Four militants, Army Major killed in fierce gun battle in Nagaland
According to the reports, the encounter took place at Lapa Lempong hilltop in Oting village near Tizit at around 12-30 am on Wednesday.
Following intelligence input, a combined team of 12 Para Commandos of the Army and Naga Territorial Army ambushed a group of ULFA (I) and NSCN (K) militants at the remote jungle area.
During the gun battle, four militants killed on spot and a Major David Manlum of Territorial army also died.
Security personnel had recovered three AK series rifles, magazines, two grenades, three IEDs, 270 rounds AK ammunition, war like stores in possession from the slain militants, who are yet to be identified.
Nagaland's police chief LL Doungel said that, three jawans of 12 Para Commandos also injured in the gun fight.
The injured jawans were immediately rushed to Jorhat based army hospital for treatment.
Unconfirmed report that a civilian also died during the encounter.
On the other hand, some militants had managed to flee from the area and army launched massive operation at the bordering area to nab them.
Meanwhile, the mortal remains of Major David Manlum will be flown to Shillong for last rites.
