Delhi: Sisodia slams Centre for vaccine distribution system over shortage
Delhi/IBNS: Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia Friday accused the Centre for stubbornly sitting on vaccine distribution system while pointing out shortage of vaccine jabs that forced the state government to suspend inoculation for 18-44 years age group last week.
He said the Centre has told Delhi that the vaccine doses for 18 to 44 will be available by June 10 but even then the national capital is expected to receive 5.5 lakh Covid-19 jabs while the number of beneficiaries stand at 92 lakh.
The Centre provided 4.5 lakh doses in April and 3.6 lakh doses in May while up to 8.7 lakh doses have been sourced from manufacturers.
For the people aged over 45 and Healthcare workers, frontline workers, the Centre gave 47.4 lakh doses, of which 44.76 lakh doses have been used up.
The Delhi government has floated a global expression of interest to urgently procure 10 million Covid-19 vaccine shots and bidders have been asked to submit their offers by June 7.
Delhi recorded 956 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, marking the lowest surge in over two months.
On Thursday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced opening of the capital city in a phased manner from Monday, allowing first construction and factories to resume work, as the positivity rate fell below 5 per cent.
