Delhi Police opposes Kanhaiya Kumar’s bail plea

New Delhi, Feb 23 (IBNS): The Delhi Police on Tuesday said they will oppose JNU students’ union leader Kanhaiya Kumar’s bail plea.

Stating reason, Delhi Police Commissioner  BS Bassi said circumstances surrounding the JNU sedition issue has changed.

Bassi said Kumar is 'bound to impact investigation' if he is released on bail.

"The circumstances have changed totally. Kanhaiya did show some repentance when he issued that appeal. He has denied issuing that appeal. He has made certain false allegations," he said.

"If he comes out in bail, it seems that he is bound to impact investigation. He might influence witnesses and is bound to indulge in activities which will be violative of penal law," Bassi told reporters.

"So, we have opposed Kanhaiya's bail and we will oppose it further as well," he said.

Bassi had earlier said the Delhi Police will not oppose Kumar's bail.

Kumar's bail plea will be heard by the Delhi High Court on Wednesday.

Kumar was arrested earlier this month on sedition charges.
