Delhi: Kejriwal raps state social welfare dept, directs them to stop anti begging drive

New Delhi, July 15 (IBNS): As news of the Arvind Kejriwal government planning to launch a massive anti-begging drive in the national capital surfaced on Friday, the Delhi Chief Minister clarified his stand saying such a drive will be the most inhuman exercise and rapped his state social department, while directing them to stop it with immediate effect.

Reacting to a newspaper article on the topic, Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, "Most inhuman n futile exercise that social welfare dept cud think of. Am directing them to stop it immediately."

As per the report, the original plan consisted of a 10-day long drive, where beggars would be picked and sent to reception-cum-classification centre. A magistrate would then pass on his judgement if the beggar would be let off with a warning or be put in a remand home.
