Delhi govt issues alert, expedites evacuation as Yamuna crosses danger mark

Delhi/IBNS: The Delhi administration today issued a flood alert and quickened the evacuation of people living in Yamuna floodplains as the river crossed the danger mark of 205.33 m due to heavy rains in.upper catchment areas, said media reports.

The water level of the river monitored at the Old Railway Bridge gradually rose today morning. It is likely to cross 205.33 M, a report in the media said.

These people are being shifted to shelter homes in Yamuna Pushta area.

A flood alert is sounded when the Yamuna crosses the warning mark of 204.50 m.

As more rains are predicted in north west India and Delhi, the river may swell further, officials have said.

The weather department has also issued orange alert for moderate rains in Delhi-NCR for third day in a row.
