Defence Ministry rejects Chinese media claims that Rajnath and counterpart might meet in Moscow
New Delhi/IBNS: Defence minister Rajnath Singh will not meet his Chinese counterpart in Moscow, who is also attending the Victory Day celebrations in the capital city of Russia, soon after Global Times, the Chinese mouthpiece reported that such a meeting could take place.
"Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe will attend Russia's Victory Day parade in #Moscow on Wednesday, and likely hold a meeting with his Indian counterpart Rajnath Singh over resolving border tensions: sources," tweeted Global Times.
A Defence Ministry spokesperson said no such meeting has been planned between the two, said media reports.
There has been no formal political meeting between India and China after the bloody scuffle at Ladakh's Galwan Valley on the intervening night of Jun 15 and 16 in which 20 Indian soldiers were martyred and over 70 soldiers injured.
After the violent engagement at the LAC, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had a telephonic conversation with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi regarding Ladakh.
Both the leaders had concluded the talks agreeing on de-escalating tension, saying "Neither side would take any action to escalate matters and instead, ensure peace and tranquility as per bilateral agreements and protocols."
Since then a strong anti-China sentiment has swept the country with people across India burning effigies of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Chinese companies dropped from big projects like 4G upgrade of the government-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd and a Rs 471-crore railways contract.
