Death toll in UP Etah hooch tragedy rises

Lucknow, Jul 18 (IBNS): With three more deaths reported from Farukhabad, the toll in the spurious liquor tragedy in Etah, Uttar Pradesh, climbed to 25, according to media reports on Monday.
On Saturday, 13 people died while more deaths were recorded overnight from Etah and Farukhabad, media reported.
 
Nearly two dozen people are undergoing treatment in hospitals. Reportedly, some have even lost their eyesights.
 
The incident occurred late on Friday, when several people from Luhari Darwaja and adjacent Laukhera village consumed the spurious liquor and were taken ill, reported NDTV.
 
According to media reports, one person has been arrested and eight officials suspended.
 
Tweeted Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, "V.sad to learn that many ppl have lost their lives in Etah,UP because of consuming spurious liquor.Those responsible must be brought to book."
 
The District Magistrate said an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each will be given to the families of deceased and action will be taken against the liquor mafias, reported NDTV
