CWC meeting begins to decide on nomination date for new party president
New Delhi, Nov 20 (IBNS): The crucial Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting began on Monday morning as the party members will decide on the nomination date for the new party president, media reports said.
Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is expected to be elevated to the topmost post of the party, replacing incumbent Sonia Gandhi.
The CWC meeting on Monday meeting is probably Sonia's last one as the party president.
The Congress will be heading towards the polls in the Gujarat Assembly election in December it is aiming to oust the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state.
Sonia Gandhi, who took over the Congress helm in May 1998, is the longest serving president of the party.
Rahul Gandhi took over as vice president, the number two position, in January 2013.
