Kolkata/IBNS: After identifying the possible Coronavirus hotspots in West Bengal, the state government has 'sealed' at least six locations- four in Howrah city and two in East Medinipur's Tamluk- to contain the spread of Covid-19 while few more hotspots will be under complete lockdown very soon, sources in the government said on Saturday.

According to reports, four locations in north and central Howrah, and two villages under Matangini block area in Tamluk have been locked down completely.

Authorities said that lanes and roads at those areas had been sealed, and all movements had been restricted there.

Earlier on Friday, state Chief Secretary Rajiva Sinha said that at least 9-10 Corona hotspots had been identified across the state which will be under complete lockdown very soon.

Meanwhile, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday announced to extend the ongoing lockdown in the state till Apr 30.

"We had a meeting with the Prime Minister today and he had officially said to extend the nationwide lockdown till Apr 30," Mamata  Banerjee said.

"We, in West Bengal, are doing the same and extending the lockdown till Apr 30 to contain the spread of novel coronavirus," Banerjee added.

According to the latest data shared by West Bengal government, the state is currently treating 95 active positive Covid-19 patients as six new positive cases were reported in last 24 hours.

Covid-19 death toll in Bengal, however, remains at five.
