Country saddened by the insult of tricolour at Red Fort: PM Modi on Mann Ki Baat
New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed the nation through his monthly radio broadcast 'Mann Ki Baat' and used the platform to condemn the violence that erupted during the tractor rally on January 26.
Speaking during the address, PM Modi said: "The beginning of this year marks the completion of almost a year in our fight against the coronavirus pandemic. The month of January brought some good news like the start of the vaccination programme and Indian cricket team winning the Australia series."
"Amid all this, the country was left saddened by the insult of the tricolour at the Red Fort on 26th January," said the Indian PM referring to the violence that erupted during the tractor rally of protesting farmers against the Centre's agriculture laws.
On Jan 26, the situation went out of control after the tractor rally, which was called by the protesters, turned violent as several farmers broke police barricades, vandalised government properties and stormed into the Red Fort to implant a Sikh flag, injuring over 100 police personnel and causing the death of one peasant.
PM Modi hails India's vaccination drive:
On Sunday's Mann Ki Baat, Modi also informed that India's vaccination drive has set an example across the world with several country heads congratulating him on the same.
"During the moment of crisis, India is able to serve the world today, since we are capable, self-reliant in the field of medicines, vaccines," said the PM.
"Today, the Made in India vaccine is, of course, a symbol of India's self-reliance but it is also a symbol of self-pride," said Modi.
The India PM claimed that the country has not only rolled out the biggest vaccination drive but is the fastest in immunizing the health workers.
"We are not only running the world's biggest vaccination drive but we are also the fastest in vaccinating our citizens," said the Prime Minister.
Modi also mentioned that this year the Padma Awards honoured the extraordinary achievements of those who work for the grassroots.
He asked the youth to write and communicate about the freedom fighters as India is going to commence the celebration of 75 years of Independence - Amrit Mahotsav.
