Civilian killed, two others injured in Pakistan shelling at LoC in Kashmir

Srinagar/UNI: A civilian was killed and two others, including a woman, were injured when Pakistan troops violated the ceasefire and resorted to unprovoked shelling and firing in north Kashmir districts of Kupwara and Baramulla, official sources said on Sunday.

They said Pakistani troops fired mortar shells and resorted to indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons from across the border in Teetwal sector in Kupwara targetting forward post and civilian areas at the Line of Control(LOC) late last night.

Indian troops retaliated and the exchange of fire continued till 0300 hrs.

The injured were rushed to a hospital where one of them identified as Rafiq Ahmed, succumbed to his injuries.

Three houses were also damaged in the shelling, they further said adding that six animals also died after a shell landed on a cow shed.

Pakistan Army also fired mortars and resorted to firing in Hajipore sector in Uri, Baramulla, targeting civilian areas and forward posts.

Indian troops returned the fire and hit the Pakistan bunkers, they stated.

They was no report of any loss of life or damage to property on this side of the LoC in Uri , the sources added.
