CAA: Women protesters in Deoband reject Darul Uloom clerics' appeal to end protest

The delegation of the clerics was greeted with 'go back' slogans at Idgah ground.

Some angry women also threw their bangles at them.

Aamna Roshi, president of Mutahid Khawatin Committee, which is leading the protest, told media: “Ulema have nothing to do with our protest. It’s a movement of the people and we will accept only their decision.”

She also confirmed that the delegation had to face sloganeering.

Roshi said their actions have to be taken responsibly as a wrong step can lead their future generation into darkness.

"Our children will question us if we fail to secure their future,” she said.

Mohatmim (vice chancellor) of Islamic seminary Darul Uloom of Deoband reportedly appealed to the protesting women to end their stir in wake of the Centre’s response that no decision had been taken yet to implement National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the entire country.

In a meeting with a peace committee on Thursday, he said that it is not wise to ask the protesters to completely end their protest but to stall it for now since the government did not take any decision on NRC yet.

A sub-committee of 15 people was formed to this end protest and thereby 5-6 members approached the protesting women.

However, the protesters rejected their appeal completely.

Darul Uloom of Deoband later distanced itself from the appeal issued by its cleric.

In a statement issued on Friday evening, Darul spokesperson Ashraf Usmani was quoted in media as saying that it had not appealed to women to end their protest against CAA.

Usmani said that the views expressed by the Mohatmim (VC) during a meeting of peace committee convened by the district administration, were his conditional and personal views and should not be seen as views of the Darul Uloom.
