BJP MLA arrested in Bengal after hate speech leads to violence

Malda,West Bengal, Jan 6 (IBNS) Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Shamik Bhattacharya along with 10 other party activists has been arrested in Malda in West Bengal on Wednesday in connection with in the case of a mob attacking a police station in the Kaliachak area on Sunday, reports said.

The attack the police station took place  when a minority organisation Anjuman Ahle Jamat (AJS) organised a protest rally against Hindu Mahasabha leader Kamlesh Tiwari for making alleged derogatory remarks on Prophet Muhammad.

 Bhattacharya was arrested from Rathbari in Malda town as a preventive measure as tension was prevailing in the area. 

 Rapid Action Force has been called in to take stock of the situation.
