BIMSTEC Summit: Narendra Modi meets Myanmar President Win Myint, Thailand PM Prayut Chan-o-cha

Kathmandu, Aug 31 (IBNS): On the sidelines of the Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Thai counterpart Prayut Chan-o-cha and Myanmar President Win Myint on Friday.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted a picture of Modi and Myint saying, "Centuries old bond! PM @narendramodi met President of Myanmar Win Myint on the sidelines of the #BIMSTECSummit in Kathmandu. Discussion focused on development cooperation, energy and other areas of bilateral cooperation."

Modi reached Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, on Thursday to attend the fourth BIMSTEC Summit.

Tweeting an image of Modi and Prayut Chan-o-cha, Kumar said: "Connecting with an important partner from South East Asia. PM @narendramodi had a good meeting with the Prime Minister of Thailand Prayut Chan-o-cha. Leaders exchanged views on further cementing our bilateral relationship. "

Modi on Thursday invited all BIMSTEC members to the International Buddhist Conclave, which will be hosted by India in 2020.

Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Srilanka, Thailand, Bhutan and Nepal are the member nations of the BIMSTEC.

Modi said: "In August, 2020, India will host International Buddhist Conclave. At this opportunity, I am inviting all BIMSTEC members to come to India as the Guest of Honour and be a part of the event."

The Prime Minister also said he is ready to hold a conference with the other BIMSTEC nations to discuss problems related to narcotics.

He said: "There is no single country in the Summit who haven't faced problems of terrorism, terrorism-linked trans-national crimes and drug trafficking. We are ready to hold a conference on on narcotics-related topics within the framework of BIMSTEC."
