Big terror bust: Lashkar commander Shabbir Ahmad Lone arrested near Delhi border

The Delhi Police's  Special Cell has arrested Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Shabbir Ahmad Lone.

According to reports, he was allegedly running a terror module from a hideout near the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka.

Police told The Statesman that Lone was linked to a recently uncovered Lashkar module connected to the Metro poster case where the module is alleged to have put up anti-India posters at several locations in Delhi.

It is believed that he played a key role in coordinating the group's activities.

Investigators told the newspaper that Lone’s involvement came to light during the probe into the recruitment of youths for terror-related activities.

According to officials, he was allegedly involved in recruiting individuals from cities including Delhi, Kolkata, and parts of Tamil Nadu, as reported by The Statesman.

Lone is suspected to have used illegal routes to travel between Bangladesh and several Indian cities, including Delhi, to “recruit and indoctrinate youth”, police sources told The Indian Express.

He is alleged to have visited Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh last year for the same purpose, they said.

These details emerged during questioning of the eight alleged members of the module — including six Bangladeshi nationals — who were arrested in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, police sources told the newspaper.

According to reports, Lone is believed to have links with Pakistan-based Jamaat-ud-Dawa, including Hafiz Saeed and Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi.
