Kolkata/IBNS: Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwari and several Tollywood celebrities joined West Bengal's ruling party Trinamool Congress on Wednesday.

Besides Tiwari, Bengali filmmaker Raj Chakraborty, actors June Malia, Kanchan Mullick, Sudeshna Roy, Saayoni Ghosh, Manali Dey and West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights (WBCPCR) Ananya Chakraborty joined the Trinamool in presence of party supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at a rally in Hooghly.

Joining the party, Raj Chakraborty, who is also the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) chairman, said, "If we do not raise voice now, then we won't get any opportunity to speak up in future."

Kanchan Mullick, who is known for his comedy roles on television, said, "The Trinamool is used to be referred to as one post with all lampposts. Now all the lampposts have gone to the other party (BJP) to give light, our one post is enough to show light."

Banerjee held a rally at Dunlop Football Ground at Chinsurah in Hooghly on Wednesday.

The Trinamool supremo said, "Gujarat and Narendra Modi won’t rule Bengal but only Bengal will rule the state."

"Let the Prime Minister and his assistants speak for two more months and then we will see who are powerful enough," Banerjee added.
