Bengal: BJP's Bishnupur MLA Tanmoy Ghosh joins TMC

Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Assembly MLA Tanmoy Ghosh from Bishnupur constituency became the second Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker to join the Trinamool Congress (TMC) since the conclusion of the state polls in May this year.

Ghosh joined West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's party in presence of TMC leader Bratya Basu at a hotel in Camac Street here.

After switching camps, Ghosh said, "We are witnessing the BJP's vindictive politics in the state. They (BJP) had also tried to capture Bengal and destroy the state's culture. My joining in the TMC is a protest against these."

BJP national vice president and MLA Mukul Roy's rejoining in the TMC earlier was the first setback for the saffron camp, which had failed to stop Mamata's rule in the state in 2021.

In the state polls held in Mar-Apr, the TMC returned to power winning 213 seats while the BJP could win only 77.
