Assam gets five new districts

Guwahati, Aug 15 (IBNS): Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday announced the creation of five new districts in the state taking their total number to 32.

Delivering his Independence Day speech at the government function held at the Veterinary college playground in Khanapara Guwahati, Gogoi announced the creation of five new districts in the state.

The five new districts are Biswanath, Hojai, Charaideo, West Karbi Anglong and South Salmara-Mankachar.

Gogoi also announced the creation of new post of District Development Commissioner, Assam Skill Development Mission, Assam Medical Services Corporation, Directorate of Drugs and Food Administration, Tea Research Centre for Small Tea Growers.

The Assam CM announced the formation of several development councils for different communities in the state.
