Guwahati, Aug 23 (IBNS): Part of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's ashes were immersed in the Brahmaputra river in Guwahati by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and state BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass.

The immersion ceremony was performed as per Hindu rituals.

Before the immersion, the party workers took out Asthi Kalash Yatra in Guwahati from the state BJP office.

Vajpayee, a three-time Prime Minister of India, a Bharat Ratna and a stalwart of Indian politics who represented the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on Aug 16.  He was 93.

His last rites were performed in New Delhi on Aug 17.
