All Eastern Railway sections to be electrified very soon, says GM

Kolkata, Sept 8 (IBNS): General Manager, Eastern Railway, Ghanshyam Singh has requested the industry captains for increased utilization of Railway services, especially its goods transport services to help sector in its ongoing modernization process.

He was speaking at an interactive session on “Eastern Railway-Prospect and Challenges” at MCC Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Thursday.

Singh said that Eastern Railway has taken an initiative to monitor cleanliness at all its stations and the process has been upgraded to mechanized mode.

He said, electrification, being the cheapest mode of traction, is under way on priority basis.

Another thousand KMs of the electrification of the zonal tracks will be completed soon and after a couple of years the entire sections of the Eastern Railway will be electrified, he added.

On the conversion of the remaining 51 KMs narrow gauge into broad gauge, Singh informed that about 38 KMs conversion will be completed by March, 2017 and the remaining portion in the next fiscal.
