Air India plane crashes in Kozhikode airport in Kerala while landing

Kozhikode: An Air India plane (Air India Express Flight IX 1344) from Dubai to Kozhikode in Kerala  overshot the runway after skidding off while landing and split into two this evening. The incident occurred around 7-40 pm. CNN News 18 said three died in the crash, including a pilot. 

Reports said there were 191 people on board the flight from Dubai. The plane did not catch fire while landing but it split into two. Rescue operations are underway.

"Dubai-Kozhikode Air India flight (IX-1344) skidded during landing at Karipur Airport at around 7.45 pm today," Kondotty Police told news agency ANI.   

A statement by Air India Express quoted in media said: "Air India Express flight IX 1344 operated by B737 aircraft from Dubai to Calicut overshot runway at Kozhikode at 1941 hours tonight. No fire reported at the time of landing" "There are 174 passengers, 10 infants, two pilots and five cabin crew on board the aircraft.

PM Modi also condoled the crash and tweeted. 

Details of the incident and exact casualty awaited still.
