After protests, FTII students meet I&B Ministry officials over Chauhan's appointment

New Delhi, July 3 (IBNS): After staging protests, students and alumni of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) on Friday met Information and Broadcasting Ministry officials here over the appointment of actor Gajendra Chauhan as the new chairman of the institution.
The meeting had ended but there is no official word on whether both parties have reached a compromise formula yet. Later they will also meet I&B Minister Arun Jaitley to discuss the matter.

Several students and alumni of the FTII earlier in the day staged protest outside the Information and Broadcasting Ministry at Shastri Bhawan in the national capital.

Some of the students were also taken into preventive custody ahead of the meeting.

Students are protesting against the appointment and have boycotted all classes and projects in FTII.

The students of the institute have questioned the process of selecting Chauhan for the post who is also a member of the ruling BJP.

Chauhan had asked students to give him a chance and judge him on the basis of his work.

"I have 35 years of experience. I request students to give me a chance & judge me based on my work," Gajendra Chauhan had told Times Now.

He was well known for playing the role of  "Yudhishthira" in the popular Indian TV serial Mahabharat.
