Afraid of a riot: Mithun Chakraborty on Mamata Banerjee's attack on Kartik Maharaj

Kolkata/IBNS: Veteran actor-politician Mithun Chakraborty on Tuesday expressed his fear of a "riot" triggered by the scathing remarks by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Kartik Maharaj, a monk from charitable organisation Bharat Sevashram Sangha.

Chakraborty made the remark while speaking to a news channel while campaigning for BJP's Medinipur Lok Sabha candidate Agnimitra Paul.

When asked for a reaction to Mamata's remark, Chakraborty without taking the Chief Minister's name said, "I am afraid of a riot which may be triggered by these instigating remarks. Her words are very instigating."

"ISKCON, Ramkrishna Mission, Bharat Sevashram Sangha are our guiding angels of Sanatanis," he added.

Days ago, Mamata Banerjee, the TMC supremo, lashed out at Kartik Maharaj claiming he had stopped a TMC polling agent from discharging his duties in Baharampur.

"All monks are not the same... I have always respected Bharat Sevashram Sangha. But I came to know there is a monk in Baharampur, named Kartik Maharaj, who said he won't allow TMC agents to perform his work. I don't respect such a monk. I don't consider him as a monk," said Mamata.

In reply, Kartik Maharaj said, "I haven't said this. I challenge the allegation. Our organisation will protest and a case will be filed in the court."

Mamata on Monday repeated her attacks on Kartik Maharaj, a monk in charitable organisation Bharat Sevashram Sangha, whom she accused of acting against the ruling TMC during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

"I have no problem if someone joins the BJP but all I am saying is to do politics formally by joining them... I don't speak without evidence," Mamata said.
