Saharanpur/IBNS: Two of the family members of Tablighi Jamaat chief Muhammad Saad Khandalvi linked to  Nizamuddin Markaz coronavius spread case have tested positive for COVID-19, said a Times Now report.

Saharanpur District Magistrate Akhilesh Singh said the patients have been hospitalised, the locality where they were staying sealed and the area has been marked as a hotspot and containment zone, said the report.

"Two close relatives of Maulana Saad have tested positive for COVID-19. We have shifted them to a level-1 hospital in Fatehpur. The area (Mohalla Mufti) from which they belonged has been identified as a hotspot and exercises of containment are being carried out there," Singh was quoted as saying in the report.

An initial investigation has revealed that both the patients had taken part in the religious congregation at the Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi, he added.

He said the duo's participation was revealed through their mobile details and other investigations, after which they were kept in isolation and tests were conducted.

The DM said the close relatives of Maulana Saad will be traced, quarantined and tested for COVID-19.

The Delhi Police have registered an FIR against Tablighi Jamaat sect chief cleric Maulana Saad and six others for flouting Coronavirus warning and hosting a congregation of 3000 people at Alami Markaz Banglewali Masjid in Delhi, which emerged as country's one of the hotspots of the COVID-19 outbreak. Maulana Saad is still absconding.

That the congregation had happened, came to light after a man died and 10 more tested positive for COVID-19 after attending the event in Mar 13 to 15.

Since then, hundreds of attendees of the event have been traced and found positive for COVID-19.
