4 killed, 8 injured in Assam Gas pipeline explosion

Guwahati, Sept 1 (IBNS) : At least four people, including a pregnant woman, were killed and 8 others injured in a gas pipeline blast in upper Assam’s Sivsagar district on Monday, officials said.

The incident took place at Singrijan tea estate under Maranhat police station in the district around 3-30 am, where an explosion occurred in a gas pipeline of Assam Gas Company and suddenly massive fire had caught nearest houses and standing crops.

In the incident, 35-year old pregnant woman named Jyoti Sabar was killed on spot and 12 others were injured.

The injured persons were rushed to nearest hospital and Assam Medical College hospital in Dibrugarh, where three persons among them succumbed to their injuries.

The deceased persons were identified as Michel Tapno, Paras Sarma and Bhasan Sarma.

Top officials of Assam Gas Company and police had rushed to the area.
