Kolkata, Sep 27 (IBNS): Six years after hooch tragedy, which killed at least 173 persons at Usti in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, a local court in Kolkata's Alipore on Thursday convicted four persons, including main accused Khora Badshah alias Noor Islam Fakir, in connection with the case.

Sixth Additional District Judge (ADJ) of Alipore Civil and Criminal court, Parthasarathi Chakraborty, said that the court will pronounce the quantum of punishment in the case on Friday.

Meanwhile, the court acquitted seven other accused persons, including local hooch don Khora Badshah's wife Shakila Bibi, in the case.

In Dec, 2011, at least 173 people were killed and several others fell sick reportedly after having toxic hooch at Sangrampur area under Usti Police Station limits in South 24 Parganas district.

Two separate FIRs were lodged at Usti and Magrahat Police Stations, and later state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took over the probe.

Later on Feb 10 in 2012, CID filed a charge sheet before Alipore court accusing 11 persons under IPC sections 304, 307, 326, 272 and 273, and section 46 of Bengal Excise Act.

A police official said that the court had found 11 persons guilty in a case, which was registered at Usti Police Station, while trial in Magrahat Police Station's case is still underway.
