12 people injured in blast at firecracker industry in Assam’s Barpeta

Guwahati/IBNS: At least 12 people including six women were injured when a powerful blast took place at a firecracker factory in Assam’s Barpeta district on Monday evening.

The incident took place at Barpeta town where the entire factory caught fire following the blast.

According to the reports, the explosion led to a massive fire at the factory while the labourers were busy preparing firecrackers ahead of Diwali festivities.

Locals immediately informed fire services and police and also engaged in rescue operations.

Later, fire tenders managed to control the escalation of the fire.

The injured persons were rushed to Barpeta Medical College Hospital.

It is to be mentioned that the firecrackers industry in Assam’s Barpeta district is about 130 years old.
