Kolkata/IBNS: Park Street in Kolkata gets a new watering hole, with Effingut – a popular pub chain from Mumbai and Pune – deciding to move beyond its home state.

If you have been to their Maharashtra outlets, you will instantly recognize the 'beer direction marker', an art installation with head gear, and Effingut mascot, Borrel, as you enter the cocktail bar and pub.

This 350-seater brewpub is spread across an area of almost 7500 sq. ft., divided into multiple sections, including private dining areas and outside seating.

The pub offers handcrafted cocktails and a multi-cuisine menu. With the use of state-of-the-art equipment and some innovative ingredients, such as house-made green tea kombucha, liquid smoke, oak chips, lapsang souchong tea, sous vide coffee and orange blossom water, the mixologist can offer you a range of concoctions exclusive to Kolkata.

Highlights from the drinks menu include signatures such as ‘Corpse Reviver No. 2’, ‘A Bath With A Stranger’, ‘Cigar Smoked Old Fashioned’ and ‘Cafe Brûlée’.

The food menu is based on Pan Asian, Indian and Continental cuisines. Highlights include Green Curry, Bacon Swirls, Khow Suey, Chicken Thecha, Pork Ribs, Kosha Mangsho, and Grilled Bhetki.

If you must have desserts, why not ask for the Sizzling Brownie with Ice Cream, which will be flambéed at your table.

To heighten the fun quotient, there are live bands, DJ nights, pub quizzes. DJ Markuz, whose repertoire includes an eclectic mix of retro, house, RnB and Trap, is currently helming the console with his team.

Manu Gulati, founder and owner, Effingut said, “While we’re opening with the full arsenal of signature cocktails, food and weekly events, our craft beer are what we are known for and we hope to receive our brewery licence soon.”

Information: Level 7, Magma House, 24 Park Street, Kolkata. Timing: Tuesday - Sunday, noon to 10 pm (as per government restrictions). Cost for two: 1,200 plus tax (without alcohol) and Rs 2,000 plus tax (with alcohol).
