Maharashtra FDA suspends license of four Domino’s outlets and one Sapphire Foods outlet after inspections flag lapses in food storage, hygiene, pest control and safety records

Five major chain outlets face action

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the business licences of four Domino’s Pizza outlets and one Sapphire Foods India outlet following inspections that uncovered multiple food safety and hygiene violations.

The action was taken during a special inspection drive conducted between July 10 and August 11, 2026, the FDA said in a press release.

Four of the suspended outlets are operated by Jubilant FoodWorks and are located at:

  • Vile Parle (West), Mumbai
  • Borivali (West), Mumbai
  • R-City Mall, Ghatkopar (West), Mumbai
  • Malkapur, Karad, Satara

The fifth outlet, operated by Sapphire Foods India Ltd., is located in Karad, Satara. Sapphire Foods operates brands including KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell in India.

Storage, hygiene and pest control lapses

Inspections at the Domino’s outlets uncovered violations involving food storage, hygiene, pest control, temperature monitoring, cleaning and sanitation, food testing and maintenance of mandatory food-safety records.

At the Vile Parle outlet, officials flagged deficiencies in drinking water and food-storage arrangements, pest-control and hygiene facilities, monitoring of frozen-food temperatures and sanitation in food-preparation areas. Hand-washing facilities were also found to be inadequate.

The FDA said the R-City Mall outlet lacked an appropriate cleaning and sanitation schedule and effective pest-control records.

Inspectors also found shortcomings in FIFO/FEFO practices, food-grade certification for materials that come into contact with food, hygiene compliance and food and water testing records.

The Malkapur outlet in Satara was found to have several non-compliances involving infrastructure, equipment, cleanliness and pest control.

Veg, non-veg pizza segregation flagged

The Sapphire Foods outlet in Karad also came under scrutiny over the preparation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian pizzas.

According to the FDA, inspectors found no separate oven and inadequate segregation arrangements. There were also concerns over the segregation of pans used for baking pizzas.

The regulator additionally flagged deficiencies in packaging information, including the absence of proper packing and expiry dates on sauces and toppings.

FDA warns of strict action

The licence suspensions form part of a wider food-safety enforcement drive across Maharashtra.

The FDA said inspections of food businesses will continue and warned that strict action would be taken against establishments found violating food safety and hygiene requirements.

The latest action puts renewed focus on food-safety compliance at major restaurant chains, where lapses in storage, sanitation, temperature control and segregation can pose risks to consumers.
