Blast from the past: Vintage car show in Kolkata

| @indiablooms | Mar 05, 2019, at 04:42 pm

Kolkata, March 5 (IBNS): Like prima donnas they stood on the green lawns, shining gloriously in the mellow morning light, as if urging the spectators to choose who's the fairest among them all.

That morning, lined up on the lawns of the Lake Club, located inside south Kolkata's Rabindra Sarovar, were rows of vintage and classic cars dating between 1903 and the 1980s.

Vintage automobiles can evoke in us the thrill of a bygone era, bringing together history, curiosity, nostalgia and glamour.

Apart from museums, a large number of these cars are in private possession and therefore out of bounds for the general public.

An exhibition such as the one held at the Lake Club is a rare opportunity to see them.

Apart from  the Ananda Chowdhury  owned  Gebruder Stoewer   of 1903 vintage and the Srivardhan Kanoria owned 1906 model of Renault Freberes, there were many classic  vintage cars of different makes from 1927 to the 1980s,  which are  still maintained as prized possessions by city connoisseurs.

More than 45 cars and  quite  a  few  scooters  took part in this show.

Lake  Club Joint secretary Debabrata Dutta  said that they plan to make this carnival of vintage cars a regular feature in the calendar of events of the club.
