West Bengal's COVID-19 tally nears 26000-mark with highest single-day spike of 1088 cases

Kolkata/IBNS: Hours after enforcing stricter lockdown in all broad-based containment zones across the state, West Bengal on Thursday reported its highest-ever single-day spike of 1088 Covid-19 cases and 27 deaths, taking the tally to 25,911, including 8,231 active cases, 854 deaths and 16,826 discharges, the state health department said.

According to a bulletin issued by West Bengal Health and Family Welfare (WBHFW), in the last 24 hours, 535 more Covid-19 patients were discharged after treatment from different health facilities in the state, though the recovery rate, which was at 65.62 per cent on Wednesday, has dropped to 64.93 per cent.

The bulletin stated that of the 1088 fresh infections, 753 cases (69.21 per cent) were recorded in three neighbouring districts-- Kolkata (322), North 24 Parganas (264) and Howrah (167).

West Bengal has tested 5,83,328 samples till date with 10,805 tests conducted in 52 testing facilities across the state in the past 24 hours, reports said.

Currently, 5,090 persons are kept in government quarantine centres and 34,595 people are under home surveillance in the state.
