India adds 61,871 fresh Covid-19 infections in last 24 hrs, tally nears 75-lakh mark

New Delhi/IBNS: India registered 61,871 fresh coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, taking its tally near the 75-lakh mark, the Health Ministry stated in its daily bulletin on Sunday.

The total number of cases in the country now stands at 74,94,551.

During the last 24 hours, India, which is the second worst-hit country globally, reported 1,033 deaths linked to the virus.

The total number of fatalities in the Asian country jumped to 1,14,031.

The number of active cases remained below eight lakh for the second consecutive day on Sunday as well.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday called for the speedy access of the Covid-19 vaccine to people in the country once the cure is ready.

Chairing a meeting to review the Covid-19 pandemic situation in the country and the preparedness of vaccine delivery, distribution, and administration, the PM directed that keeping in view the geographical span and diversity of the country, the access to the vaccine should be ensured speedily.
