Covid: Assam reports biggest single-day spike with fresh 1,218 cases, tally touches 21,864

Guwahati/IBNS: Assam on Saturday reported its biggest single-day spike in Novel Coronavirus cases by reporting new 1,218 infections in the last 24 hours.

The overall Covid tally in the state touched 21,864.

Assam Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said 570 of 1,218 cases were reported from Guwahati alone.

Biswa Sarma tweeted, "1218 new #COVID19 ve+ patients in Assam today, with 570 reported from Guwahati City alone. Please follow strict containment measures to stay safe! Total cases 21864, Recovered 14105, Active cases 7705, Deaths 51.”

On the other hand, 788 personnel of Assam Police have also tested positive for Covid-19.

"As on today, a total of 788 of our personnel have tested positive for #Corona, out of which 377 have recovered. One of our colleagues made the supreme sacrifice and inspires us every day. After fighting bravely, 27 of our #CoronaWarriors have already joined back for duty," Assam Police tweeted.
