West Bengal seeks Army support from Centre to manage post-Amphan situation
Kolkata/New Delhi/IBNS: The Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal on Saturday sought the support of the Indian Army from the central government to mange the post-Cyclone Amphan situation in the state.
The Home Department of West Bengal has put up a tweet, "GOWB mobilizes maximum strength in unified command mode on 24×7basis for immediate restoration of essential infrastructure and services asap. Army support has been called for;NDRF and SDRF teams deployed; Rlys,Port & private sector too requested to supply teams and equipment."

"Drinking water and drainage infrastructure getting restored fast. PHE asked to supply water pouches in gap pockets. Generators being hired where necessary. More than a hundred teams from multiple departments and bodies working for cutting of fallen trees, which is the key to restoration of power in localities. The Home Ministry in a recent tweet informed 10 more NDRF teams have been deployed in West Bengal to manage the situation in the state.
The tweet reads, "10 additional @NDRFHQ teams deployed in West Bengal for post cyclone #Amphan management. Additional deployment of 10 teams will bring the total deployment to 36 teams of NDRF, across the 6 districts of WB affected by the Cyclone."

Cyclone Amphan on Wednesday pummelled the eastern state of West Bengal leaving scores of people dead, countless homeless, besides plunging large parts of the state without electricity, internet connections and other communications.
As per latest news, over 80 people in the state have lost their lives.
Water and electricity supply, phone and internet connections are still not normal in vast parts of the state including its capital city Kolkata.
"Electricity will only get normal if uprooted trees are displaced," said state's Power Minister Sovandeb Chattopadhyay on Thursday.
"We will take seven days to make Kolkata normal. After seven days, we will rebuild the city," Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) administrator Firhad Hakim said on Friday.
